Abstract

In the context of the rapid development of digital technologies and changing ways of
obtaining information, libraries are faced with the need to transform their functions and services.
Traditionally, libraries have been associated with book repositories, knowledge and information centers
providing access to printed and multimedia resources. However, the digital age poses new challenges and
opportunities for them, requiring adaptation to the needs of the modern user. On the one hand, the rapid
development of the Internet, access to online resources and the popularization of digital media have led to a
change in the format of information consumption. On the other hand, libraries remain important cultural and
educational institutions capable of offering unique services that are difficult to reproduce in a virtual space.
In this regard, the question of what role libraries should take in the new conditions becomes important.: how
can they transform and adapt to a changing world while remaining a source of knowledge and a place of
social interaction. In this article, we will look at the historical context of changes in librarianship, analyze the
processes of adaptation of libraries to digital conditions.
