Abstract
This article provides a detailed overview of breathing techniques and their types in vocalchoral performance. Breathing is a fundamental factor in sound production, and its proper use directly affects
the quality, clarity, and expressiveness of singing. There are three types of breathing: upper chest, middle
(thoraco-abdominal), and lower (rib-diaphragmatic). In choral practice, the most effective and recommended
method is lower diaphragmatic breathing. The article also thoroughly discusses the chain breathing method,
in which choir members take turns breathing, allowing for uninterrupted performance. This technique is
especially important in complex, polyphonic works. Mastering proper breathing requires special exercises,
vocal repetitions, and guided rehearsals with a conductor. A deep understanding of these techniques
significantly enhances the choir’s overall performance quality.
