Abstract

The article examines the teaching of Karakalpak national musical instruments as an
integrated process of transmitting cultural heritage and developing performance competence. Research on
master–apprentice transmission, culturally sustaining pedagogy, targeted feedback, and self-regulated
practice is compared. The study proposes a five-stage model comprising attentive listening, observation and
imitation, segmented practice, performance in genre context, and reflection. The model is differentiated
according to the technical demands of the dutar, kobyz, girjek, balaman and dap. It is argued that assessment
should address not only accuracy and sound quality but also stylistic understanding, independent practice,
and responsibility in ensemble performance.
