Abstract

The article examines, from a culturological perspective, the distinctive features of the
Kashkadarya-Surkhandarya performing school formed in the southern regions of Uzbekistan. It analyses the
historical and geographical position of the region, the archaic layers of the Boysun cultural space, the ichki
ovoz vocal technique, and the interpenetration of classical singing with the epic bakhshi tradition. The article
introduces into scholarly discussion the problem of inequality in the degree of scholarly systematisation of
this school compared with the other three regional schools. Through a comparative analysis of the creative
paths of performers who emerged from the southern regions, the article substantiates the existence of a stable
three-stage system of transmitting the classical singing tradition.
